Girl In Pieces // book review

From the author:: This grittily provocative debut explores the horrors of self-harm and the healing power of artistic expression. (author’s note) (Fiction. 14 & up)

This book caught my attention but it did not hold it too long at a time, if that makes sense. Let me see if I can elaborate a little...the story itself is well written, the topic is something that seems to be pretty known with teens so I was ready to jump in and get reading.  I will say that I like how the author was able to take her own personal struggles and overcome them. I also love that she was able to get her story out the way she did and even more so that it is directed towards teens. So many look for help and cant find anything to grab on to.
The book is long, 400 pages so it did take some time to get through. I wish that it would have held my attention throughout. It was off and on throughout the book  however that is just my opinion. Others are going to grab onto the story and keep going while others may have no connection with it.
I would recommend this book to anyone who self harms, knows someone that does, or is just curious about it.
